Knee High Boots + A Dose of Transparency

I don’t want to jinx it, but it actually feels like fall outside. We’ve had a few days of pleasantly cool weather here in DC. It’s so nice not to be a sweaty mess when walking the kids to school!

I thought I would change things up a bit with this post.

We all love a good fall staple like knee high boots, but there are also more pressing issues to cover. Over the past few years, I have been striving to be a better person and citizen in the world. It’s definitely a process and I’m far from perfect, but being honest about the journey is always a good start.

Some days I feel like I’m in the movie A Few Good Men and simply “cant handle the truth”.  Knowledge is power but it’s also exhausting. I think to myself, can I just enjoy this without having to have a deeply personal opinion about it? Do I need to know everything about everything? A little blissful unawareness is needed sometimes to keep your sanity.

Adding Sustainable Fashion Pieces to your Wardrobe

One way that satisfies both my do-gooder goals and overwhelmed feelings is finding brands that place transparency as a top priority. That way, I can rest my trust in the process and feel good supporting them with my wallet.

Circling back to this look….this sweater was my first Everlane purchase. I had heard of the brand many times before but never put in the effort to make an order. Then, as I was looking for a simple white/cream sweater I looked a little deeper on their site and learned how they take painstaking efforts to ensure their supply chain is ethical. Win win for me!

Continuing on the topic of transparency, I thought I would reveal some behind the scenes info on these pics…

To start, I had a fun morning with Meg of Meg and Claire and we captured a few fall looks in our neighborhood. When you live on Capitol Hill, that means places like the Supreme Court! {Also, very fitting for a post about the truth}.

Now these are some of the most beautiful pics I have had on my blog. I’m not always fortunate to have a professional photographer take picture for FBM. But, it always seems a little odd for me to have the perfect outfit and such polished pictures because most of the time, I’m a disaster. Don’t get me wrong, I can clean up nicely. But that’s about 20% of the time. And that’s what usually makes to the feed.

There are so many influencers/ bloggers that share a look and I always wonder what outfits are they actually wearing? Did they just do a photo shoot then gift the clothes? Or sell on Poshmark? What is actually real??

Well, I can’t speak for them, but I have full intention of wearing this look. Once the temps start cooperating all the pieces – Everlane sweater, corduroy skirt, suede knee high boots – are great together or separately!

My sustainable fashion journey

I’m just starting to learn more about ethical fashion brands like Everlane. Just having a curiosity is the first step! After loving this great sweater, I know I’ll be adding more pieces to my closet.

Going forward, I would love to so more posts like this. Don’t worry, I’ll still balance it all and keep up the content you came here for in the first place.

If you want to share your honest opinions, leave a comment below! I would love to hear from you.

  • Perfect post! You showed beauty and realness. Winning combination! In my opinion, you don't need to be fired up and passionate about everything. That would be exhausting! There are so many issues to advocate for. I think you choose the ones that tug on your heart the most and advocate for those issues. You use your gifts, talents and voice to spread awareness and do good where you can.
