OK, I know I’ve been talking about this for months, but I’m finally getting to all the posts I wanted to complete this summer. Sometimes life gets in the way, or a good sale!

In my Living Room + Dining Room Reveal post, I shared how I worked with my friend Heather Disabella to decorate our home. Today, I’m sharing the gorgeous ways she styled our Master bedroom.  This was a bit more challenging than our first project.  I think because while the living room is the first thing you see when you walk into the house, we spend so much time in our bedroom that we wanted it to be perfect.  Thankfully, Heather pushed us out of our comfort zone and realized what we needed, even if we didn’t at first.

Since creating your own special haven is highly personal, I thought I would share some ideas that helped us in the design process with Heather. Yes, there are so many gorgeous pieces in this room, but you need to get what you love! Here are few things to consider for your master bedroom…

 1. Imagine What Makes You Happy.  From the first design, Heather showed us options with dark green.  I had never thought of using this color for our master bedroom before. I wanted clean, bright, and airy.  But once I saw it, I knew.  When we first moved here, I would go on about how I didn’t like Washington, DC.  But what changed for us was the local school our kids now go to.  Once Sam started, I felt part of a community and loved seeing the kids thrive.  The school’s color is dark green.  So for me, having that color represents the key piece of our happiness here.  Same for the picture collage above my desk.  I always feel so inspired by the images in the frames!

2. Don’t Be Afraid of Something Bold.  When we saw this buffalo check chair in the first round of concepts, it was immediately dismissed.  I mean, immediately.  Just crossed it off with an X.  So, I seriously thought Heather was going to kill us when later in the process {and several chair recommendations later}, I told her that we wanted the chair.  Thankfully, she laughed and was super excited we had a change of heart.  I know it’s only black and white, but it felt too out there for us.  Then we realized that it was the perfect piece we needed! And, now the kids fight over who gets to read bedtime stories in it.

3. Sometimes You Have to Compromise.  I told Jeff we will never have a TV in our master bedroom.  Like, ever.  Our home in Philly did not have one. Our last home in DC did not.  Well, as you can see in the pictures above, there is a gigantic TV in our bedroom.  I must admit, I do like having it.  Even the kids love making the room dark like a movie theatre.  I did hold my ground that I did not want to see wires everywhere, which in the end was an easy ask. With all my personal touches – the mini office, the Avedon coffee book {he used to shoot all the old Revlon campaigns}, and beauty quotes – the space needed to make us both happy.
