Celebrating Mom with Taylor Swift Lyrics
Taylor Swift, the queen of storytelling through song, has penned countless lyrics that resonate with the complexities of life, love, and family. And what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than through the lens of her heartfelt lyrics dedicated to the incredible women who raised us?
In today’s post, we’re going through some of Taylor’s most tug at the heart strings lyrics and some items I added to my Etsy shop, Screw Top Rose Co., that inspired them!
The Best Day / Fearless
Even if you’re not a senior Swiftie, chances are you’ve seen a social media reel or post featuring this song overlaid to a touching moment. “The Best Day,” is a heartwarming tribute to Swift’s own mother, Andrea. Taylor loves sharing home movies featuring her mom and it’s so sweet to think about writing a song about how much your mom means to you while in those teenage years.
Never Grow Up / Speak Now
“Never Grow Up” captures this bittersweet moment when you finally get your childhood wish to be a grown up, but realizing you wish you could stay a kid. Here, Taylor gives the advice to “not make your mom drop you off around the block, remember she’s getting older too, and don’t lose the way that you danced around in your PJ’s getting ready for school. “
Dear John / Speak Now
Now, I personally love when Taylor includes lyrics about talking to her mom about the struggles she faces in a relationship. In Dear John, she writes: “My mother accused me of losing my mind, but I swore I was fine.” She also brings this back in songs like ” Now That We Don’t Talk” from the 1989 vault tracks. And it’s not just her mom, she also gives us glimpses of Scott Swift’s opinion in songs like “Ours” and All Too Well 10 Minute Version”
This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things / Reputation
If your mom has heard and seen it all and is always there for you, raise a glass to her! Going through the events that inspired Taylor’s reputation album is something Taylor could have never have done with out here mom. Here’s to the mamas!!!!
