I won’t keep you in suspense here. The magic trick to making your makeup look better lies in three simple words:

Clean. Your. Brushes.

Maybe that isn’t life changing advice, but seriously, when was the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? If you can’t remember, I recommend putting it on your to do list.There are a few reasons to keep your brushes clean.  One, they naturally accumulate bacteria. Two, they also accumulate dead skin cells and oil from when you use them. So if you let those two things sit and build up, it could clog your pores, flare up your acne, or irritate your skin.

Plus, it’s easier than you think to keep them fresh and new. Here’s how.

What You’ll Need

  • your dirty brushes
  • a bar of soap {a popular choice is the Charcoal cleansing bar . I used a Korres bar that I picked up from a hotel on our trip to Greece. Whatever you use, just designate that as your brush bar. Don’t also use it to wash your face.}
  • warm running water
  • a hand towel

Start cleaning

Hold the soap in one hand under the warm running water. Using circular motions, rub the brush on the soap under the water. Place on a hand towel to dry.

Secret tip: Wash your brushes in the AM to give them time to try. If you clean at night, they may still be damp in the morning.

I think that we can all agree that the actual act of cleaning your makeup brushes isn’t that difficult. It’s finding the time!  I wish I could give you an easy life hack here, but let’s face it. We all get behind on the things we should be doing.  Set small goals like once a month or maybe even once a week.

Or maybe life will remind you. Of your skin isn’t looking as great as it once did, take a step back and clean the things that touch your face all day.

Have a great weekend everyone and keep those beauty brushes clean.
