I’ve been the family travel agent for a while now. Extensively researching locations, hotels, where to eat – all the details of a family trip. As I’m usually in Canva creating graphics for content, this lead to creating professional itineraries. They are a good amount of work so why keep them to myself!
You can screen shot the high level itinerary below, but here are some of the details to know.
New England Summer Vacation With Kids
Living in DC, we made the decision to drive up to all these spots. I will say, it was a very long time in the car. Especially on the way back. But since we were going to so many different spots, it was best option.
Watch Hill, Rhode Island
As a big Swiftie, this was our first stop!! This town is absolutely charming. We were only passing through to check out that salt box house on the coast known as Holiday House and have a meal at the Ocean House. (During summer the hotel requires a multi night stay ; it books up very far in advance and is pricey). However, when we arrived, we discovered that Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffery were getting married and we weren’t on the invite for this star studded wedding. So on to Newport for dinner!
Newport, Rhode Island
We’re a loyal Bonvoy family so we stayed at the Newport Marriott Hotel & Spa. It was a little rainy the first day but thankfully they had an indoor pool. Here, we ate meals at The Black Pearl, Bar Cino, 22 Bowens. Our activities includes walking around town, the Cliff Walk, and Mansion Tours including the Breakers.
Harwich, Cape Cod Massachusetts
On the way to the Cape, we had lunch in Hyannis at a little place called the Tug Boat. Here, we stayed at the Wequassett. This was our home base for the Cape. We primarily ate meals at the hotel but did go out to Chatham for dinner one night at Pates.
Nantucket Day Trip
There is a small fairly quick ferry we took to Nantucket for the day. We took the first boat out in the morning and the last back. Now, we had a friend who has a house on the island. If you don’t have a place to stay to rest a little or use the bathroom, I would not recommend doing this and would tell you to shorten your stay or plan a few nights stay. We ate at Lemon Press, Or, The Whale, and Straight Wharf and explored downtown, the steps, the lighthouse and drove around the island. The views on the ferry home were spectacular.
Provincetown Whale Watching Day Trip
The kids (and grown ups!) were super excited to go whale watching in Provincetown. Definitely pack a sweater or sweatshirt as the windy conditions gets a little cool! We again, explored around town and grabbed light bites at local restaurants.
And there you have it!! If this trip is on your bucket list, I hope this gives you some ideas.
